Dark Shadows inspiration

One of my group members told me and showed me the film ‘Dark Shadows’ and I thought the opening was particular good as it portrays the setting of the film and the time in which it was in really well by making the date appear within the opening straight away so that the audience are aware of the time in which it is set and so that they get a feel of the era.

We had decided to do this in our film opening, but using the font Gabriola which is the same as out title's font as we thought it will portray our films time period and go with the rest of the titles well in order to blend in as well as helping the audience establish the era effectively.

nother element of ‘Dark Shadows’ opening that helped portray the time period was the choice of song that was used within the opening of the film. It was the song  ‘Nights in White Satin’ by The Moody Blues which was a well-known song in the 70’s in which ‘Dark Shadows’ is set in, setting the time period well.  This is how we got the idea to have a Beatles song due to them being popular in the 60’s which our film opening is set in.

Hairstyle for Alice

One of the main characters is Alice. The twist in the film is that Alice died in the early 1950's, therefore her fashion should be slightly behind Rosie's (her friend) who was born before her. Therefore to create this we have looked into hairstyles that were mostly known and used in the 50's and we will be using them for our character Alice in our film opening.

Her honey blonde hair is slicked back and held tightly to the scalp as it is brought to the back of the head and secured into a ponytail and then formed into a neat bun. Her bangs are sectioned off and pulled to the side and with the help of strong hold hairspray, it stays in place. A pretty white ribbon is tied around the bun and a bow is created on top. Her red and black polka dot strapless dress and white pearls along with red earrings are a perfect way to celebrate a classic 1950's look. Her black eyeliner extends past the eyes for a flirtatious spark.

We used this research for our second main character in our film opening having a white ribbon in her hair at the back to add to the 1960's feel to our film.
